Goodreads Description

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

My Review

I want to start by saying that I didn’t love this book nor hate it. I guess since I am reading the second book, I liked it more than not. At times, it seemed to drag and I honestly don’t think that I could have finished it if it weren’t for the read aloud that I am doing with a few people. I am hoping that now that all the background was told and set, that the next book will have a bit more action. I also watched the movie… and it was awful. It went on its own little tangent and didn’t even follow the book. Everything was different and it seriously annoyed me. I mean I don’t usually mind adaptations as much as everyone else seems to but this one seriously irked me. I mean the movie was just bad, and I watched it before I even finished the book. Okay… Rant over.
